MetroXpress Danmark A/S (24,5 PCT.)
Metro was founded in Sweden in 1995 and the idea was to produce a free tabloid that busy commuters could find at traffic junctions and on public transportation.
As from mid-May 2008, the free tabloids metroXpress (owned by the Metro corporation and A-pressen) and 24timer (owned by JP/Politikens Hus) were merged into one publisher – MetroXpress Danmark A/S – which became Denmark’s largest supplier of free tabloids. At the merger, metroXpress and 24timer had an aggregate readership of more than one million on a daily basis, primarily in the attractive 14-49 target group. Furthermore, MetroXpress and 24timer had 1.9 million different readers over a period of a week – corresponding to half of the Danish population above the age of 14.
In connection with the merger of metroXpress and 24timer, MetroXpress A/S had a new group of owners. JP/Politikens Hus stepped in with 24.5%, and the existing owners A-Pressen and Metro International SA now own 24.5% and 51% of the company respectively.
MetroXpress and 24timer only have 16% of their readers in common, providing unrivalled total coverage.
