Polfoto
POLFOTO is one of the largest and oldest photo agencies in Denmark with a comprehensive photo archive and unique historical material. The archive starts with Politiken’s photographer Holger Damgaard, whose picture from the Christmas of 1908 was the first photo to be printed in the paper – and Denmark’s first press photography.
Holger Damgaard was active until 1940, and the archive has more than 30,000 photos with his signature. POLFOTO has donated Damgaard’s original glass plates to the Royal Library’s photo collection.
POLFOTO’s photo archive is extremely comprehensive and the stock is increased by several thousand pictures every day from freelance photographers, from the photographers of Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten, Politiken and Ekstra Bladet and from a long list of large international picture agencies.
Already in 1948, Politikens Hus transmitted photos across the telephone system and in that same year, as a new feature, Politiken and Ekstra Bladet were able to print current photos from the Olympic Games in London.
Since 2004, POLFOTO has been operating a news service supplying Danish newspapers with news and archive pictures supplied by more than 30 freelance photographers as well as in-house photographers. The news service is open 18 hours per day.
Market position
POLFOTO has a market share of over half of the Danish newspaper market. The sales department also serves customers in the advertising and publishing business, as well as individual customers and the entire magazine sector. The agency also solves special assignments for the specialist press.
Partners
POLFOTO has the exclusive right to sell pictures from the international picture agency Associated Press which is one of the most well-reputed in the world. At the international level, POLFOTO also works with other leading picture and news agencies including American Corbis, British PA, French Roger-Violet, German DPA, and Swedish Stella.
Organisationally, POLFOTO is placed under the three daily newspapers Ekstra Bladet, Morgenavisen Jyllands-Posten and Politiken.
